The Duel Animation

Short Animation

Responsibilities: Design, Animation, Editing, & Conceptual Development

As part of a larger extended project with multiple different opportunities to create animation, I wanted to push myself to animate a cohesive themed piece, complete with music but independent of the source material.

The Duel began as an appreciation for Houston Ballet’s Romeo and Juliet Act 01 Carnival Fight Scene, between Tybalt and Romeo. From there, I rotoscoped a recorded performance and transformed it into a study of form, minimalism, and animation in my attempt to stylize a small section at the beginning of the piece. Combined with the music, I created a short segment that provide the mood of antiquity I was aiming for with the appeal of animation. The sword swooshes were an absolute highlight for me to imagine & visualize!
